Key Details of the Deal
The Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) has announced a significant media rights agreement with Nine Entertainment and Foxtel. The deal, which will take effect in 2028, involves broadcasting arrangements for both free-to-air and streaming platforms.
Nine's Role

Under the terms of the new arrangement, Nine will be responsible for broadcasting select NRL games on free-to-air and streaming platforms. It will screen the grand final and both men’s and women’s State of Origin series, with three live matches a week airing on Thursday, Friday evenings, and Sunday afternoons.
Foxtel's Responsibilities
Foxtel and its streaming subsidiary DAZN will have exclusive rights for live coverage of every NRL home and away game. The number of men’s matches on free-to-air television will remain unchanged while the number of women’s games will be reduced, with a specific reduction not detailed.
Impact and Significance
Peter V'landys, ARLC chairman, emphasized that this deal represents a significant milestone for Rugby League. He stated that the Commission has worked hard in recent years to increase audience engagement.
