On Monday, Esmail Baghaei, the spokesperson for Iran’s foreign ministry, dismissed reports that Iran was set to hold talks with the United States. This denial came after President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that negotiations were planned to take place the following day.

Baghaei clarified that there are no plans for either receiving or sending a delegation from Iran to the US, indicating that Tehran’s current focus is on discussions with Oman regarding maritime routes through the Strait of Hormuz. According to Reuters, Baghaei emphasized that any agreement would respect both sides' sovereign rights and safeguard national interests.

The announcement by Iran had a significant impact on global markets. Crude oil prices saw a sharp decline, with Brent crude trading 5% lower at $83.50 a barrel by mid-morning.
